An enduring issue is one that many societies have attempted to address with varying degrees of success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>environment (n.):<\/strong> the area around us in which we live<\/p>\n<p><strong>evidence (n.):<\/strong> something that gives proof of or a reason to believe something<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equator (n.):<\/strong> An imaginary circle around the Earth, equidistant from the North and South Poles. It is zero degrees latitude<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>F<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>fertile (adj.):<\/strong> able to produce farm crops or other plant life<\/p>\n<p><strong>feudalism (n.):<\/strong> the dominant social system in medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants \/serfs were obliged to live on their lord&#8217;s land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for military protection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>filial piety (n.): <\/strong>a virtue of respect for one&#8217;s parents, elders, and ancestors<\/p>\n<p><strong>Five Pillars (n.): <\/strong>are five basic acts in Islam, considered mandatory by believers and are the foundation of Muslim life<\/p>\n<p><strong>Four Noble Truths (n.): <\/strong>the four central beliefs containing the essence of Buddhist teaching<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>G<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>geographic feature (n.): <\/strong>naturally occurring landform, body of water, or ecosystem<\/p>\n<p><strong>government (n.): <\/strong>the group of people that has power to make laws and important decisions for a community, state, or nation<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>H<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>hajj (n.): <\/strong>the Muslim pilgrimage (religious journey) to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year, and that all Muslims are expected to make at least once during their lifetime<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hegira (n.): <\/strong>The flight of Mohammed from Mecca to Median which was instrumental to the founding of the religion of Islam. Occurs in 622 ACE, which dates the founding of Islam<\/p>\n<p><strong>hemispheres (n.):<\/strong>\u00a0any half of the Earth&#8217;s surface<\/p>\n<p><strong>historian (n.):<\/strong> a person who writes history<\/p>\n<p><strong>history (n.):<\/strong> an account of the past constructed from evidence.
